Soooo…I haven’t really been around in the past few weeks. I know I said I’d follow up within the week a few weeks back with posts related to the subject of mental illness in the Church and how to help those who are struggling, but that hasn’t happened. Yet.
You see, I don’t have a whole lot of time to write these days. Working full-time in LA throughout the week is rewarding but draining, and many of my weekday evenings have been filled with meetings, time with friends, time with the husband, Navs events, PURE VEGGING and so on. So the only solid chunk of time I really have to write are on the weekends, which have been chock full of goodness in March.
So please forgive me. We will return to our regularly scheduled program shortly.
In the meantime, here’s what’s been going on in March, AKA, my Instagram feed.
On Friday, February 28th, RJ and I headed out to Downtown Disney, where my brother was proposing to his fiancee. I’m getting a new sister!
We also discovered that Disneyland is a short 35 minute drive away from my work…which foreshadows more trips in the future??
We enjoyed a pre-proposal date in Downtown Disney. Of course, we had to check out the Lego store to visit our favorite Lego celebs!
The next morning, I got some time with a sweet, dear friend who I’ve known for as long as RJ and I have been in Riverside. I love how our friendship has changed over the years from discipler/disciple to dear sisters.
She gave me this beautiful and prayerfully crafted quilted piece to represent our friendship. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
On Sunday, the entire family all gathered in Irvine to celebrate my brother and Kylie’s engagement. We had an all-day eating fest that included dim sum, boba, and neuro-mien. It. Was. EPIC.
I have no recollection of the weekend of March 7th…but it was probably an amazing and low-key weekend tending to our garden like old people, WHICH I AM OKAY WITH. It was also probably the week that I last wrote a blog post, since I had the time. Yep, it absolutely was.
On Pi Day, we had students over for a game and movie night at our house.
Of course, we had to have a ton of PIE to celebrate!
The next day, my sister, brother in law, and niece stayed the night, and we brought my niece E to Disneyland for her first trip ever and to celebrate a friend’s birthday with some friends.
Okay, they were technically my sister’s friends first, but I like to think they’re my friends too. ;)
RJ and I decided to take the plunge and get annual passes to Disneyland, as we were blessed to receive an unexpected bonus. Here’s to more trips to Disneyland! But only on non-blocked out dates.
I enjoyed a lovely and low-key St. Patty’s Day with a bunch of women I love, with wine and ice cream. That’s all I really need in life. Wine and ice cream. And salt and vinegar potato chips. And grapes. And beer. And my husband. And my dog. Okay, I guess there are a lot of things I need in life.
Two weekends ago, I went on an impromptu girl’s getaway to Phoenix, AZ, where my friend, fitness and faith blogger, Bobbi was invited to be Westin Hotel’s fitness expert to kick off Westin Phoenix’s well-being program.
To the accommodations…
To the food and drinks…
To the well-being event…
To the workouts…
To lounging by the pool…
It was the perfect blitz of fun, fitness, relaxation, and food! And we never even had to leave the hotel premises!
Except for that darned 5k…which I had NO IDEA we’d be running. Now I could easily do a kickboxing class for hours on end, or back to back Insanity workouts…but running?? Maybe my body just wasn’t built that way. Luckily, we had a Dutch buddy run the tail end with us, who gave us a lovely tour of Downtown Phoenix along the way.
Thanks for the amazing time, Westin! It was definitely an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to go back for another girl’s getaway!
Of course, before we drove back to SoCal, we had to hit up Buffalo Exchange! Who doesn’t love some bargain shopping??
As we drove back to SoCal, RJ was driving towards Phoenix, AZ with about 40 other students and staff from UCR, UO, and UCSD Navs, leaving me with Daisy for the week. Which meant a lot of girl time! Hey, I’ll never turn down some good girl time!
RJ and the crew got back on a Thursday evening, where we had a massive girl sleepover in our house.
Early the next morning, RJ led a brave crew to Disneyland, which I joined after work on Friday afternoon.
And um, you GUYS. There was a FREAKING EARTHQUAKE as we stood on Main Street, waiting for the fireworks. It started with the ground shaking, to which I initially thought, “Wow, Disney upped their effects,” and quickly turned into “OH $@#^ THE BUILDINGS AND LIGHTS ARE MOVING AND ARE GOING TO FALL ON US AND WE WILL BE SWALLOWED UP INTO THE EARTH.” Obviously, buildings and lights did not fall on us and we were not swallowed up into the earth. But who’s got time to think logically in an environmental crisis??
More than the rides or the attractions, I just love getting to know people, hearing their stories, and catching up with some dear dear friends. It was particularly such a blessing to hear how God is moving through the Navs at the University of Oregon, the ministry that RJ came from, and historically a very difficult place to labor. They’ve got themselves an amazing group of students and staff, and we are excited to see what God might do in and through them in the future.
The next morning, RJ, Daisy, and I enjoyed a brunch date at Simple Simon’s, a cute little hipster place in Riverside, after not having spent quality time together for over a week due to travels.
We then made the trek down to San Diego, where my sister revealed the gender of her second baby! It’s going to be a……
Well, unfortunately, I’m not allowed to reveal the gender of the baby because dad doesn’t know yet! But if you are smart enough to find Jenny’s blog, you can find out there. ;)
We tried out a new sushi place, Moto Sushi in Rancho Bernardo, that had a 50% off sushi rolls deal. It was pretty delicious and very filling!
And THEN, my friends, one of the greatest accomplishments of my life…I FINALLY won in St. Petersburg. After years and years and years of trying. It’s finally happened. I have arrived.
So…did I mention that weekends in March have been jam-packed with goodness???
I hope this explains why I may have been a little more absent than usual in the past month. Hopefully I can get back on track with regular posting for April!
Until next time, thanks for reading!
How was your March? Did you do anything exciting?
