Six years ago, RJ asked me to be his girlfriend.
I said yes…and neither of us have looked back since! That is, unless to remember how far we’ve come.
We started out our 6 year date-iversary celebration with a trip to the farmer’s market for some fresh and locally grown fruits and vegetables to supplement our growing juicing obsession. While we were downtown, we decided to stop at Simple Simon’s for a delicious lunch. And of course we had to take a couples selfie using the full-length mirror! MAN, that guy is a cutie!! And DOUBLE man, that chicken apple sausage sandwich was good!!
Over lunch, we talked about our marriage. Every once in a while, we do a little “check-in”, to reflect on where our marriage is now, where we would like for it to grow, where we see our strengths, and where we see weaknesses, both as individuals and as a husband and wife. We know its so easy for the busyness of life to grow us apart from one another if we aren’t intentional about investing in our marriage.
We consider these little “check-ins” vital to the health of our relationship, especially as I’m away from home for 50-60 hours each week now. We’re always thankful for the crazy hardships early in our relationship, as difficult (and loud, haha) as our relationship was then. Because we worked through all those issues then instead of just brushing them off, we are able to enjoy one another so much more and so much more deeply now. If you are married or dating, I’d highly recommend having regular check-ins. It just helps to redirect both individuals to be on the same path again.
Anyways (oops, that was a long tangent), we got a dark chocolate cupcake from Casey’s Cupcakes to split that we have yet to eat, but look at how glorious it is! Yuuuuummm…but I’m being a good girl and staying within my calorie limit for this Summer Shred I’m doing! (More on that later!) So I’ll have to enjoy it tomorrow.
When we came home, of course we had to have cuddle time with Miss D, or Dai$y as she likes to spell it. She can be quite demanding.
RJ was super sweet in going clothes shopping with me afterwards. :) I wish I got a picture of him playing Star Wars Angry Birds on my phone in a chair by the fitting rooms in Nordstrom Rack because he looked like a little kid whose mom dragged to run boring errands with and who needed to be bribed or quieted with mommy’s cell phone in order to make the experience tolerable for all parties involved. If you’re a parent of young children, you know what I’m talking about. Alas, I was busy trying to hurry so he wouldn’t get hangry (hunger-induced state of anger).
Also. He had my phone.
We went out for sandwiches afterwards at Corner Deli, where RJ and I shared some yummy sweet potato fries with garlic aioli and each of us got the ridiculously delicious Korean BBQ sandwich.
That about sums up our 6 year date-iversary! I’m super thankful that 6 years ago, a college senior named RJ was brave enough to pursue an older woman, even though she lived 1000 miles away. And is loud. And ate weird Asian things. And is just weird in general.
Which, by the way, I got a new app that I’ve been playing with. Observe, one of my first projects:
Here’s to the past six years! Love ya, sweetness.
