Today is January 9th, which means this is my 9th day in a row of blogging. I know it seems rather random for me to suddenly declare 31 days of blogging to the Facebook world on New Years Day. So I bet you’re wondering why.
So let’s take time to answer why.
Q: Why did you decide to blog for 31 days in a row, Alice?
A: Well, it’s quite simple, really. I am great at visualizing and starting things, but I am not great at following through. I can envision a beautiful and full blog, with tons of fun ideas (for example, on managing a household, entertaining a crowd, putting together fun outfits without spending a ton of cash, organization, money management, etc.), a place where I can share my successes, my failures, my random thoughts, and my crazy stories, and a place where I can share Jesus in everyday life. I have always wanted to blog regularly to build up to this vision, and do well when I muster up the motivation to do so. For a couple of days. And then I forget/get busy/get lazy/lose interest/lose motivation/etc. You see, my problem is that unless I break a great task down into smaller steps, what I envision seems too far away, and I shelve the vision until the next time I get excited about it.
I’ve heard that it takes 30 days to form a habit. Well, actually, it seems like everyone has a different number. But for me, the number that has stuck is 30 days. So I decided, let’s try to form a habit of blogging. Let’s be intentional about this and blog for 31 days (you know, just in case) and take it step by step towards where I want to go. Even if I don’t continue blogging daily, hopefully it would still end up being a few times a week.
So friends. The answer is simple. I am blogging for 31 days straight to try to form the habit of blogging, and to move forward towards where I want to take this blog. Which might end up being just for my family and my friends. But that’s okay. :)
Q: Why is your blog named, “What’s On My Mind Grapes,” Alice?
A: Ah, good question. It all comes down to a random episode of 30 Rock that I watched a few years back.
Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), practicing his introduction for a certain Jack Welch for a charity dinner with his assistant, Liz Lemon (Tina Fey): “Jack Welch has such unparalleled skills they named Welch’s grape juice after him because he squeezes the sweetest juice out of his workers’ mind-grapes.”
Liz Lemon: “That doesn’t even make sense.”
Which it doesn’t. Or does it? Anyways, the idea of a mind-grape becomes a recurring gag in the episode, for example, when the other main character, Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) brainstorms with some show writers and asks them passionately, “What else is on my mind grapes??”
And it just stuck. I can’t explain it. I don’t even watch the show. I just like the randomness of the idea of the mind grape. Next!
Q: So what is this blog about anyways? You’re sharing recipes, DIY baby shower favor tutorials, random rants about dating…what is the point of this blog??
A: Um, I honestly thought you would have been able to guess from my response to the previous question…
Imagine squeezing the juice from my mind grapes. What you see on the blog is essentially what you’d get. A random, fiery mish mash hodge podge of whatever is on my mind at any given moment, be it cooking, crafting, being a wife, ranting, theorizing…you are at the mercy of what’s on my mind grapes.
